As you may have recently heard, Pompton Lakes has a “significantly elevated” cancer rate and has uncontrolled groundwater PCE and TCE contamination that could be impacting thousands of residents.

We urgently need to contact the NJDEP Commissioner, our two Senators, and Congressman Pascrell regarding this serious issue.  Please take 10 minutes to both call and/or e-mail them.  A sample message follows:

SAMPLE MESSAGE TO MARK MAURIELLO

MARK MAURIELLO, NJDEP COMMISSIONER:  609-292-2885

Good afternoon.  I am urgently calling/e-mailing you today to respectfully ask that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection formally request the United States Environmental Protection Agency to assume control of the Pompton Lakes DuPont explosives site cleanup and off-site residential plume area.

As you can see from the Department of Health and Senior Services and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry report and news link released on December 11th, 2009, this site has a “significantly elevated” cancer rate and has uncontrolled groundwater PCE and TCE contamination that could be impacting thousands of residents.

I ask that you make this request TODAY.  Our families who live over this plume would no doubt reserve the strongest possible legacy for your leadership if you show the political courage to help refer this site to USEPA so they can give our families timely relief from these toxic chemicals.

Thank you in advance for helping our families.  We appreciate all the support you can give us.
